Teachers at one Hoai Duc secondary school where we are helping them implement a reading program, visited a very effective child-friendly library at The Gateway School to learn from their experience and see their library operation first-hand.

Gateway’s leaders shared their insights on reading and related activities in school. Gateway’s librarian shared an effective way to manage the library as well as how to develop a connection between the school and book publishers so new books are constantly being added.

Teachers need to constantly encourage their children. They can start reading a short and easy story, and follow up with an appropriate activity. In order to develop a reading habit in the children, the administrators and teachers need to be very enthusiastic, and deploy reading activities to match the culture of the school.

The visiting teachers learned many lessons which will be practically helpful in organizing the library and maintaining ongoing reading activities. They also gained motivation to improve their own school library activities.

YWAM Mercy Vietnam hopes child-friendly library activities continue to be a priority at the school in order to continuously improve the quality of learning and teaching.
