YWAM Mercy Vietnam aims to help children establish strong reading habits. Our child-friendly libraries provide both engaging books and many activities to encourage reading. Teachers are trained on how to incorporate reading lessons into the school day. They are also trained and encouraged to host reading festivals in their primary school.

Four of the Luc Nam Primary Schools where we installed Child-Friendly Libraries held reading festivals recently. Students, teachers and parents enthusiastically participated in the day-long Reading Festival activities, which included; displaying and introducing books; reading and commenting on read content; drawing pictures about reading content; and many games. Parents were also invited to contribute new books and help set up the shelves.

The smiles on the students’ faces showed their enjoyment and parents expressed their support and excitement about their children having the opportunity to increase their ability to read and to develop a regular reading habit.
