Like other Vietnamese children, children at YWAM Mercy’s community-based Children’s Homes look forward to the annual Mid-autumn festival when they enjoy moon cakes, five-fruit trays, and brilliant lanterns. In Vietnam, the Mid-autumn Festival is a Children’s Festival. This year, the Mid-autumn festival was on September 29, 2023, in the middle of the eighth lunar month. It was a magical, joyful time for the children in our three Homes.

A few days before the Mid-Autumn Festival, everyone prepared for this special event. Boxes of fragrant moon cakes, fresh fruits, and boxes of candy were delivered to the homes.

The children and staff, along with local leaders, arranged the traditional five-fruit tray together. The Children’s Home was filled with laughter and happy conversation as the children and leaders enjoyed the celebration together. The coming of the full-moon reminds Vietnamese of the fullness of the Earth and prompts us to give thanks for its bounty. In the Homes it brings joy and puts a smile on every child’s face and stirs up hope for a bright and full future for each one.
