In today’s global world of hi-tech communication, learning English is a must. Knowing English can provide a chance to work for companies with an international reach which brings broader job opportunities and a higher salary.

With this in mind, one Hoai Duc secondary school organized English practice for teachers and students. We were able to support them through an Australian team that was visiting. This is the first time these teachers and students had the chance to practice English with native speakers. The Australian visitors did a great job modeling an attractive and effective English lesson for the local English teachers. Nearly 400 students in 12 classes were encouraged to speak English through role plays, games, pictures and songs.

Various topics about Australian culture, animals and weather were discussed. The atmosphere at the school was one of excitement.

We are mainly taught grammar in English class. English communication like we had today is really helpful for our school. Even being a Math teacher, I hope to have more opportunities to learn English practically like this.

The Australian team gave lots of English books when they visited the Child-Friendly Library funded by YWAM Mercy Vietnam

The students were eager to practice English anywhere they could

The Australian team shared with the school board and teachers how to motivate students and use of available resources for English practice. School leaders and teachers believe this experience will heightened interest in English learning.

YWAM Mercy is pleased to be able to provide opportunity for English practice in rural and impoverished communities.
