An is in grade 7 and was born with a withered arm. Her parents were young and inexperienced at the time, so they did not recognize that An couldn’t use her right hand until she was three. In the years after, they took her to hospitals for treatment, but there was no hope for her to gain the use of her arm at this point.
Her parents were disappointed, but they accepted the doctor’s conclusion. They decided An’s father would be the main laborer to earn money for their family and An’s mother stopped working and focused on caring for their children. It is An’s good fortune that her family loves her and takes good care of her. She has learned how to do everything with her left hand. Despite facing many inconveniences in daily activities, she attends school every day and continues to love learning.
When asked what she planned to do in the future, she said, “I’m not sure but I love school, so I intend to work hard to study for higher grades as much as possible. This is the fourth time that I’ve received school supplies from this program, and I’m so happy to go to school.”
